When a name just does not work

I’ve been struggling with my protagonist’s name for a while now.

I realized that her name, beautiful as it was, was not giving me the vibes I needed, and it was hampering my writing. It was not her, not aligned with the fire I wanted her to have. And I was struggling to keep it going.

So, after a week of internal dialogue and several discussions on the implications, I’ve changed her name.

I’m still adapting to it, though, and overcoming the crippling doubt that arises every time I make a change. Hoping you will like her (the protagonist) as much as I do.

I also changed where she is coming from. Initially, she was born and lived in Charleston during her youth. However, since I made my road trip to the US, I realized that writing from memory is much better than using Google Maps, and she comes from one of the cities I most enjoyed during my stay.

And that is all I will say: new name, new origins.
