What do you do to go from an idea to a book?
If you are anything like me it’s easy to spend years procrastinating. Then a few more dedicating yourself to “real life”, getting a grip because it will never pay the bills. Then you pick up a book again in 7 years, an actual book and not The Economist. And you start reading like there’s no tomorrow and you do not have a big house and two young kids to take care off.
Home again. Finally! Feels good to be lost in words at last.
And you end one book your start another. Non-stop. So many books, so little time. And if I read I cannot write, but the ideas come to you in your sleep. While you run. On the shower. But still, the excuses you give yourself.
Until you get to a reading slump. You need the next thing, but your reading dragon is demanding. It’s not any book that does it for you anymore, actually there’s few books that get you there.
And so you forget the little voice in your head. The one that tells you that you have a full time job, a house to run, a body to keep fit, a family that requires attention and less time than a Forbes CFO and you give one step. Just one.
The step for me was a podcast called Writing Excuses.
And the bubbling ideas turned into a volcano. It cannot be stoped anymore.
